Installation of ESTIMATION in the cloud
Is it possible to install ESTIMATION in a cloud environment?
Yes, it is possible to install ESTIMATION on a virtual server at a cloud service provider, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.
Here is a guide to help you select the most appropriate deployment type for your business. It applies to any type of server, including local or cloud virtual servers.
What type of deployment will you use?
One of the main factors affecting the performance of ESTIMATION (besides the capacity and performance of your SQL server) is the latency between the client application and the SQL server. It is therefore very important to consider this factor when selecting your type of deployment, whether on your local network or with a cloud provider.
In remote connection with RDP, Citrix or similar technology.
This is generally the most efficient option because with this type of deployment, the client application co-exists on the same server (or at least on the same local network) as the SQL Server, which minimizes the latency between the client application and the SQL Server.
The disadvantage is that you have to get appropriate licenses from Microsoft and/or your service provider. If you are already using such licenses, this will probably be the best solution for your company.
Client / Server
This type of deployment involves each user installing and running the client application locally on their workstation and the application communicating via TCP/IP with the SQL server.
It is also possible to achieve a high level of performance with this option, as long as your local network is powerful (100 or 1000 Mbps) and not overloaded and without frequent packet loss.
It is also possible to connect via VPN with this type of deployment, but this is only recommended if you have a high-performance VPN router and the user's Internet connection is fast, stable and relatively close (geographically) to the servers to minimize latency.
This type of deployment is less expensive because you do not need to purchase RDS CAL licenses for your users.
Please note that in all cases, you will need to obtain licenses Microsoft Serveur CAL for your users, in addition to the RDS CAL, Citrix, or other licenses applicable to your deployment.
